This wrought-iron chandelier by Bellery-Desfontaines is in the Art Nouveau style, with its geometric structure and linear motifs. Octagonal in shape, it features meticulous ironwork, with symmetrical scrolls framing a central pavilion in opalescent glass. The latter diffuses a soft light, enhanced by several suspended light sources arranged around the structure. The overall effect is one of technical mastery and a search for balance between ornamentation and functionality. This chandelier reflects the discreet, structured elegance of early twentieth-century decorative furniture. About the artist : Henri Bellery-Desfontaines (1867-1909) Henri Bellery-Desfontaines was a multidisciplinary artist emblematic of Art Nouveau, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and the Académie Julian. Painter, illustrator, engraver, poster artist, decorator and typographer, he contributed to numerous art magazines and helped decorate monuments (such as the guardroom at the Hôpital de la Charité in Paris and the restoration of the Château du Fôt), and designed furniture, tapestries and illustrations for Éditions d'art Édouard Pelletan. A prize-winner at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, he also designed visionary typefaces and banknote designs for the French Colonial Empire. In 1902, he created the first illustrated French joker, which became a benchmark.
