Crystal chandelier Charles X, 1840. The Baccarat glassworks was founded in Lorraine, France in 1764. Its crystal water and the art of cutting made it famous, as did its know-how in the use of glass in superimposed and engraved layers. Opaline is Baccarat's other specialty. Since its creation, this crystal works has remained one of the emblematic companies of French luxury. A "Baccarat" can be recognized by its generous, skilfully cut crystal.
