18th century “cage” chandelier with nine lights 18th century silvered. Bronze and crystal. Reissue of Mathieu Lustrerie workshops. This "cage" chandelier is decorated with pendants, commonly called 18th century crystal these days. These pendants have replaced those in rock crystal, formerly reserved for the most fortunate. Melted with manganese or other metal oxyds, over time these glasses develop smoky, purple or yellow hues, adding a touch of authenticity and character to these remarkable pieces.

Lustre "cage" XVIIIème à neuf lumières. Bronze argenté et cristal XVIIIème. Réédition ateliers Mathieu Lustrerie. Ce lustre "cage" est orné de pampilles, communément appelées de nos jours en cristal XVIIIème. Ces pampilles ont remplacé celles en cristal de roche, réservées autrefois aux plus fortunés. Fondus avec du manganèse ou d’autres oxydes de métaux, avec le temps, ces verres développent des teintes fumées, violettes ou jaunes, ajoutant une touche d'authenticité et de caractère à ces pièces remarquables.

In the 18th Century, the royal chandeliers were treated as jewellery, Their pendants were in 'pure water crystal' - natural crystal/quartz.

18th Century Crystal

Before Lead crystal was discovered, the glass was mixed with Manganese, Tungstene or other materials. These materials used to give a smoky, violet or yellow tint to the glass. Our 18th Century Crystal recreates this effect, making it perfect for pieces that need to look antique or fit in a collection.
