Bronze chandelier with corbeille shaft, foliate decoration illuminating six horns of plenty and white glass pendants with wavy pattern simulating petrified waves. Art Deco style, after a model by Simonet et frères, 60 rue des Archives, Paris, circa 1920. Gilded bronze and pressed glass. This chandelier is part of the set that won 1st prize in the 1924 Lighting Competition in Paris.

The 1920-1940 Art Deco style is the first style that is movement of a truly global and simultaneous nature. It is also the first one to fully combine architecture and decoration. It takes its name from the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts which was held in Paris in 1925. Inspired by Cubism, Fauvism and African and Egyptian art, Art Deco can be defined in three words: order, color and geometry. Art Deco furniture and lightings benefit from a prestigious production for wealthy clients, from the Chrysler Building to the Palace of the Maharajah of Indore, the Stoclet Palace, the Champs Elysées theater or the large transatlantic liners of the time. The greatest artists in terms of Lighting are Jacques-Emile Ruhlman, Jules Leleu, Jean-Michel Frank, Jean-Charles Moreux, and many others.

Before Lead crystal was discovered, the glass was mixed with Manganese, Tungstene or other materials. These materials used to give a smoky, violet or yellow tint to the glass.
