French empire style gilded and black bronze six-branch chandelier with gilded tassels suspended from fine leafy rosettes under each candle-cup and centre, the bronzed urn with lion masks and surmounted by flambeau. Circa 1920. Small Empire Chandelier with 6 lights around a central urn.

The Empire style is very influenced by the Emperor Napoleon who imposes his taste for massive and imposing elements. We find the strong symbols of Napoleon (like the eagle or the bee) and war and military decorations. The expansion of the Empire will lead to the diffusion of this style throughout Europe. The architects and decorators Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine were the designers of this meticulously archaeological style, brought back from the Napoleonic campaigns and inspired by Roman antiquity, the Etruscan and the Egyptians, who exhibit an opulent neoclassicism.

Before Lead crystal was discovered, the glass was mixed with Manganese, Tungstene or other materials. These materials used to give a smoky, violet or yellow tint to the glass. Our 18th Century Crystal recreates this effect, making it perfect for pieces that need to look antique or fit in a collection.
