Folpo, is a dialect word that has by its nature a form that recalls the traditional venetian chandelier. There is a linguistic link between the octopus and practice of Murano glassmaking: glass blowers usually call the badly made objects “Folpo”. Luminescent and floating sculpture in pink opaline and opaque red glass. The work is composed of eight hand blown glass elements on metal structure assembled to the Venetian chandelier tradition. This design is a lighting fixtures made in the form of octopus and squid. With its waving arms, opalescent pink color and staring eyes, the octopus evokes the mysterious depths of there ocean. Maria Grazia Rosin (Italian Born 1958) was born and raised in Venice and trained as a painter , she has applied her inventiveness and humor to one of the most tradition-bound forms in Venetian glass : the chandelier. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Corning Museum of Glass, New York; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Museum Kunst, Düsseldorf; and Murano Museum of Glass.
