Gothic maiden chandelier with St. George slaying the dragon at its center. Made entirely of bronze, it symbolizes good triumphing over evil, surmounted by the Virgin giving birth to the Christ child, which was extremely rare at the time.
This chandelier, with its stylized cross-shaped leaves, perfectly underlines the flamboyant Gothic architectural movement that can still be admired in the sublime cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. It features the iconography of the extraordinary chandeliers that also illuminated the Gothic cathedrals of Northern Europe.
The Haute Epoque refers to furniture and works of art dating from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the 17th century.
