Monumental Genoese-style chandelier with hand-chased Louis XV rococo bobèches and basins and flower and grape pendants. Adorned with rock crystal and amethyst drops and beads. Manufactured by the Mathieu Lustrerie workshops in the 2010s, this chandelier is extraordinary because, in the late 17th century, chandeliers of this size were uncommon and extremely expensive. Every little element of its decoration could be mounted as a ring or necklace! At the time, having 72 candles on a chandelier was a sign of power for the owner and respect for the visitor. This chandelier is said to be Genoese because, at the time, rock crystal was mined in the Alps, and Genoa had become a specialist in the manufacture of this type of chandelier, which adorned all the European courts of the time.

In the 17th century, the work of rock crystal from the Alps was an important industry in Genoa and its region. The smallest crystals cut into balls were sewn on the arms and the structure of the chandeliers in wood or bronze or assembled in "laces". The light of the candles is reflected as on water, each pearl is like a drop of dew deposited delicately on the chandelier.

Before Lead crystal was discovered, the glass was mixed with Manganese, Tungstene or other materials. These materials used to give a smoky, violet or yellow tint to the glass. Our 18th Century Crystal recreates this effect, making it perfect for pieces that need to look antique or fit in a collection.
