Directoire / Empire lamp “bouillotte” with adjustable shade.

A “Bouillotte” lamp generally consists of two to four arms of lights starting from a rounded base, topped with a metal shade (in “tôle”) that withstands the heat of lit candles. These shades are opaque but reflective on the inside. Its the most distinctive feature: the shade is adjustable in height, by sliding on the central rod. It allows the shade to be moved up and down when candles burn out, or are replaced by new ones. The Bouillotte lamp takes its name from a popular 18th century French card game, similar to poker, called Bouillotte. The players would place said lamp in the center of the table to illuminate the cards.
Lampe bouillotte Directoire / Empire
