Louis XIV Baroque "Sun King" Wall light

The Louis XIV style, between 1643 and 1715, includes three distinct periods: the first, still all imprint of Louis XIII until 1661, the second until 1685, the height of the Louis XIV style, finally the last one is no longer just utilitarian, it becomes an element of the decor. The works of André-Charles Boulle deeply mark this last period and his work is now the greatest symbol of this stylistic period. Freed, thanks to his royal privilege from the obligation to work only with wood as a cabinetmaker, Boulle became the greatest artist of his generation. In addition to his marquetry work for which he is best known, the new importance given to gilded and chiseled bronze in his creations helped to diversify a manufacture of bronze until then confined to sculpture and which would become the most powerful industry in the world of decorative arts in the 19th century. On these “baroque” or “classic French” chandeliers, we find sculpted faces, volutes, floral motifs and acanthus leaves, on a symmetrical structure.
Applique Baroque Louis XIV "Roi Soleil"
