Impressive wrought-iron chandelier attributed to Louis Majorelle. In 1861, his father, Auguste Majorelle (1825-1879), himself a furniture designer and manufacturer, moved his family from Toul to Nancy. It was here that Louis completed his initial studies, before attending the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris for two years in 1877, in the studio of the painter Aimé Millet. On the death of his father, he stopped his studies and returned to Nancy to oversee the family's earthenware and furniture factory. This kept him busy for the rest of his life.

Before Lead crystal was discovered, the glass was mixed with Manganese, Tungstene or other materials. These materials used to give a smoky, violet or yellow tint to the glass.
