Chandelier done for the kitchen of the castel Bussy Rabutin. Directoire période beginning of XIX century.

The Directoire style, of antique and classical inspiration, is characterized by a sober workmanship and simple shapes. After the fall of Louis XVI, the Directoire style marks a desire to break with the opulent royal codes, which will be taken up and enhanced with the Empire. This short post-revolutionary period is characterized by the abandonment of bronze (in the service of Bonaparte's guns), replaced by painted sheet metal, and the search for a new light source (oil and the Argand and Quinquet systems ) replacing the candles, then a symbol of monarchical power.

Le style Directoire, d’inspiration antique et classique, est caractérisé par une facture sobre et des formes simples. Après la chute de Louis XVI, le style directoire marque une volonté de rompre avec les codes royaux opulents, qui seront repris et sublimés avec l’Empire. Cette courte période post-révolutionnaire est caractérisée par l’abandon du bronze (au service des canons de Bonaparte), remplacé par de la tôle peinte, et à la recherche d’une nouvelle source lumineuse (l’huile et les systèmes Argand et Quinquet) remplaçant les bougies, alors symbole du pouvoir monarchique.
