The Odyssey Collection takes us back to Stanley Kubrick’s iconic “2001, A Space Odyssey”. Strongly influenced by this cinematographic masterpiece, Régis Mathieu created Lustre Orbite, inspiring himself by the shapes and movements of the Discovery One spacecraft, controlled by the sentient artificial intelligence computer HAL 9000. Orbit Chandelier is both contemporary and timeless, finding its place at the heart of a collection that spans over six centuries of chandeliers and an evolution of styles. Its smoky quartz crown levitates perfectly between tradition and innovation. With its unexpected and innovative shape, this “floating gem” is set to continue the awe factor at the heart of the Mathieu Bejewelled Chandeliers Collection. After having adorned the ceilings of renowned boutiques such as those of Cartier and Vacheron Constantin, this exceptional chandelier has now undertaken a new trajectory, and is set to orbit around the Samaritaine for its next journey. It is here, under Gustave Eiffel’s formidable glass ceiling that Orbit Chandelier becomes the ambassador of a new and seductive aesthetic: that of the alliance of tradition and modernity.

In the 18th Century, the royal chandeliers were treated as jewellery, Their pendants were in 'pure water crystal' - natural crystal/quartz.
18th Century Crystal
Before Lead crystal was discovered, the glass was mixed with Manganese, Tungstene or other materials. These materials used to give a smoky, violet or yellow tint to the glass. Our 18th Century Crystal recreates this effect, making it perfect for pieces that need to look antique or fit in a collection.
