Parrot chandelier in Belle Epoque style but very original and modern for this period. Late 19th century. Original model was gas-lit. During The Belle Époque, a new spark was given to the exploration and adoration of nature, sparking a renewal of interest in rich materials, marked by a renaissance in goldsmithing, furniture, and decorative arts. Through this, Art Nouveau spread in Europe, highlighting the abundance of nature through its shapes and curves which nourished numerous allegorical themes. The Parrot Chandelier is both inscribed in style but original in the designer's execution, making this fun chandelier unique. Throughout the ages, it is fascinating to note how an emblematic animal inextricably becomes linked to major discoveries or significant events. At the end of the 18th century, Buffon's Natural History of Birds appeared, which offered a source of inexhaustible creative possibilities for artists. If the chandelier here shows a parrot, the taste for Chinoiseries in the 19th century sometimes replaced the bird with the monkey. This type of chandelier, which was originally lit by gas, carries taps that very subtly play hide and seek in the branches, at the very base of each candle.
