A sanctuary lamp in the Gothic style with three lights, decorated with six angels in adoration surround a central flame. The whole is suspended from a wall bracket supported by a dragon. The new religious impetus asserts itself in the XIX century with the construction of many churches and permits the rediscovery of the Gothic style and its architectural lexicon. This movement also manifests in painting and decorative arts, as we can see with this sconce in gilded bronze. This chandelier’s lower openwork band structure is decorated with lobes and trefoils, giving birth to three supports to receive candles. Each corner of the hexagonal band is flanked by spires on which rest six angels in prayer; accompanied by ruby glass, the tabernacle, attesting to the divine presence. Crowned by a second band, the whole is suspended from a wall bracket with a wyvern poised to escape. This work, of the highest quality and complex structure is likely from Maison Disclyn & Linn; established in Paris on Boulevard Madeleine, circa 1880, who produced liturgical objects for most Parisian churches.
