Executed around 1930 - 40s, the chandelier is a designed in the meticulous Italian Liberty style. This cylindrical wrought iron chandelier is surmounted by 2 circles and is held by rare stylized candle holders. Unexpectedly, Girardi has placed a finely crafted copper hanging dish that illuminates it from underneath. Inscriptions in Latin on wrought iron: + LAUDATO SIE - LO SIGNORE - PER FRATE - FOGUE - PER LO OURLE - ENNALLUMINI - LA NOCTE “This chandelier is very modern for its time and its central copper piece with candles makes it timeless. I like the sacred and rigid side of the candle sticks. Girardi intelligently fused the candles around the crown with the electric lighting on the central copper piece creating a magnificent contrast. " Régis Mathieu Alberto Gerardi (1889 - 1965) was a well sought-after artist from Italy. Alberto Gerardi's work has been offered at auctions multiple times, with high realized prices depending on the size of the work. A Floor Lamp, was sold at Christie's New York in 2016 at a record price.
